rainy day experiment | everyday family session

This session took place late last month, during the kind of thunderstorm that transforms day into night. It was an experimental session to begin with; I had a few things in mind that I wanted to work on and thought April’s family would be perfect for it.

And perfect they were. Never had I worked in such extreme conditions – keep in mind it was as dark as night for most of the session and I was without a flash or reflector.

Working with young, moving children in even the best lighting conditions can be quite the challenge.

April’s oldest son was THE MOST adorable thing ever – playful, energetic, and silly.

My favorite age to photograph.  🙂

It’s hard to believe that his little brother will be playing with him in no time.

No time at all.

Thank you again, April, for allowing me to capture your precious family!

It was exactly what I needed.

Way to go Tina! I hate using a flash and usually run into the problems you stated in your post. Maybe if you do that photography workshop you can teach us your tricks! 🙂 BTW, I was at a grad party last weekend for a cousin who lives a few blocks from you. On the way out we saw your new deck. It looks awesome! I hope you guys are spending lots of time relaxing out there this summer!

I would certainly be teaching my non-flash tricks because it’s the only way I roll. (Well, aside from shooting indoors at night… and even then, there are still a few tricks.)

Can’t believe you were SO CLOSE. The wind has been wreaking havoc on the deck, even tipping over our gas grill last weekend. I think we need to plant a hedge of huge trees!

Hope you’re enjoying your summer so far, Crystal!
