our family mission statement | a chapter in my story

My husband and I kidnapped our children on Sunday thinking it might make crafting our family mission statement a little more exciting.

They are teen boys after all and answering a bunch of touchy-feely questions is like asking them to do homework.  (Their words, not mine.)

It took almost two hours but we made our way through the entire list!  [We used the “Questions to Ask for Families of Three or More” in THIS post.]  While we still need to iron out a few details, several things were clear:

We like to bring people together.  We like to entertain.
Our home is a refuge.
We like to serve others in unique ways.
Rest and play are important.
Respect for others in the home and outside of it, also important.

We are narrowing down our list to include the heart of all that was discussed.  And then it will be turned into a piece of artwork that will hang in our basement to serve as a reminder to live with intention.  And to help keep us focused on the things that matter most to us a family.

And I hope to share it (and the lovely artist helping to make it happen) with all of you before the month is over.  Can’t wait!
