one large gathering | inver grove heights, minnesota family session

If you’ve been following my blog for some time, you might see a few familiar faces in the midst of this large family gathering.  I have known Mellissa for what seems like FOREVER.  Her mom contacted me wanting pics of their entire clan.

It was a fast-moving session in more ways than one. 🙂

And fun to have the opportunity to get to know Mellissa’s extended family.  Working with all of the different ages and personalities kept me on my toes.

Lots of silliness.  And giggles.  And hugs.

After hearing so much about it, I finally had the chance to see Mellissa’s GINORMOUS garden.  And spend time on the property that I love so much.

My favorite location for so many reasons…

Here are several more from our lovely afternoon together:

Beautiful family, Sue!  Thanks again for inviting me out to capture everyone!!

dodging raindrops | stillwater, minnesota family session

This session had been on the calendar for months and when the day finally arrived, the family woke to no electricity!

Seriously, of all days?!! But they just rolled with it, despite the less-than-pleasing conditions.

Gracefully dodging raindrops here and there.

Managing to make the most of it.  And best of all, having fun.  🙂

As the oldest heads off to college this fall, the family faces a new season of sorts. A time of transition I imagine to be quite bittersweet. [I’m already fretting about such changes in my own family when it is still years away!]  I wanted to capture them as they are right now.  To give them a visual reminder of their time under one roof.  Pre-transition.

It was so much fun working with older siblings, watching the play between sisters.  Catching glimpses of each unique personality.

It was a joy following them around for the morning.

Pure joy.  Thank you again for allowing me to be part of your day!!!

everyday family session | crystal, minnesota photographer

This sweet, little girl is my second cousin.

And I had the pleasure of photographing her first birthday celebration a few weeks ago!

When I arrived, Mom and Dad were busy getting things ready for what ended up being the perfect day for a party.

The spread was GORGEOUS and included a cake and cupcakes made by Mom.

I should say crafted because they were works of art!  As guests arrived, everyone moved outside to soak up the sun.

And all was fine… until Grandpa (my uncle) arrived.

He’d told me once that she was afraid of him – but I thought he’d exaggerated a teeny tiny bit.

Turns out I was wrong!

It took a little bit of time (and distance from Grandpa) but she was soon back to her sweet, happy self.

In the meantime, I had fun “spying on” some other second cousins that didn’t really want to be photographed.

There was lots and lots of food.

A feast fit for a queen princess.

And before long it was time.

Yes, THAT time.

Mom and Dad helped with gifts and the birthday girl enjoyed every second of it.

I especially enjoyed watching what happened when Grandma & Grandpa were alone with the kids:

Loving up their grandchildren.  So very, very precious.

Thank you again for allowing me to take part in your special day!!!

Thanks, Rachel!

Wonderful pictures Tina – Thanks a ton! You also had a great narrative going along with the photos. Thank you for sharing this day with us – that would have been great with you just being there without a camera too!

in the midst of crazy life, a boy turned 12

We celebrated Part 1 (immediate family) of our youngest son’s birthday with the usual traditions.  He was surprisingly into what were were supposed to do because it was his birthday AND the order in which things were supposed to happen – breakfast muffin with candle (“muffin NOT donuts because it’s always a muffin”),  measurements recorded on the garage wall, Itinerary Day, and lunch at restaurant of choice.  Little did he know we’d planned to shake things up a bit by inviting his best friend over for a surprise sleepover.  🙂

I can honestly say, it was one of THE BEST birthday surprises ever.

With it being the last day of Leprechaun Days, there was an impressive fireworks display… which we may or may not have mentioned we paid extra for to make his day super duper special.  😉

Happy Birthday, Lorenzo!

everyday family session | prior lake, minnesota photographer

I’ve known Molly for a very long time; we met through our passion for scrapbooking (she, too, is a Creative Memories consultant) but didn’t really get to know each other until she experienced the loss of her daughter.  Molly knows the importance of savoring moments – she’s got a drive for it that matches my own!  I loved her session idea… to capture their youngest son’s first birthday.

On his birthday.  As they celebrated together as a family.

It was pouring rain when I first arrived but there was no way I could reschedule… it was his birthday after all!  Thankfully, it slowed down to a trickle and we were able to sneak outside for at least a few shots before the mosquitos totally overwhelmed us.  🙂  Here is a peek at the rest of our time together:

I so LOVE what Molly has done with her walls.  Her family images are everywhere and displayed so creatively!

Her boys are a joy to be around… so expressive.  And really, really, REALLY wanting to show their little brother the birthday ropes.

And then there was cake!

It was a pleasure stepping into your life for the evening, Molly.  Thank you SO, SO MUCH for the invitation!

I love when parents let their little ones just go at cake with their hands! An adorable shoot, Tina!

Molly - August 3, 2012 - 9:29 am

I love them!! Great job, Tina! Thank you so much for coming into our home and capturing these precious moments with Baby Cooper!
