the everyday photographer workshop | march 2017

Here’s a quick recap from our last workshop which took place little more than a week ago.  A handful of us gathered for several hours of teaching in my home.

There were treats, of course.

Along with loads of photography practice.

Including time with a live model!

Two of the attendees were grade school friends of mine:

The third, a senior session client from several years ago:

The workshop covered equipment, lighting, composition, storytelling, and how to consistently capture great shots using manual mode instead of relying on unpredictable automatic features.

Our time together was information packed, inspiring, and fun.  Thanks again Cheryl, Kelly & Bethany for being part of it AND to our adorable model (& momma) for stopping by.:)

camp craftalata | scrap camp 2017

Last year was the first time in more than a decade that I was able to attend a retreat I was not hosting.  To simply be.  And it was wonderful.  So wonderful in fact, I did it again.

The ladies who made it happen are four creative geniuses, brainstorming and crafting to make Scrap Camp 2017 spectacular.  The hostesses – er, ah… CAMP COUNSELORS are two friends who inspire me like crazy.

Crystal and Kelli are a simply a joy to be around.  And their people?  Very much the same making it an incredibly fun, 4-day weekend.  It all began with an invitation to Camp Craftalata:

The camp theme was everywhere!  I am a detail girl and was overwhelmed by all of the special touches.

There was camp cash (earned by participating in different challenges and by working a cleanup shift in the kitchen) to spend at the CANTEEN.

Special pillowcases on each bed.

2. he created light

© Tina Vega Photography

I am utterly and completely fascinated by LIGHT.  And one of my favorite things about God is that He – the ultimate artist – created it.

Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day” and the darkness “night.”

And evening passed and morning came, marking the first day.

- Genesis 1:3-5

1. he redeems & restores

We were given a bit of homework in bible study this week. A challenge of sorts, prompted by the fourth sermon in THIS series (click on the link for details). Every day this week, we are supposed to share (by text or social media post) one of our favorite things about God.  A favorite things list? I already DO that… but about God? Not so much. Then again, perhaps it’s time to begin. So I have created a new blog category for it as a way to regularly reflect and express gratitude.

Needless to say, I’m up for this week’s challenge and will continue adding to my list over time. With all that out of the way, let’s turn to my favorite thing about God for today:

HE REDEEMS & RESTORES

This truth demands all caps.:) Where do I begin? I have written about the mess in my early life many times before (click HERE, HERE, and HERE for a few examples). Life was broken, chaotic, and full of pain. I found myself stuck in addiction, hurting myself and the people around me. And then something amazing happened in my darkest place. I began reaching out to God in my journal writing and HE RESPONDED. [The story is HERE and makes me cry yet today.]

And God didn’t stop by simply pulling me out of that mess. He restored my life to what He intended it to be all along – which is one of many reasons my heart is sold out to Jesus. The most beautiful part is what He chose to do with me after all was said and done:

We gather around the table to share a meal I have prepared each month. Only God could take the mess of a 9-year eating disorder and turn it into something so beautiful. The full story is HERE.

Thank you, God, for being my favorite of all Favorite Things.

How beautiful the hands that serve and the hearts that overflow with my Jesus’ love! #IAMREDEEMED
