honey-mustard summer kabobs

Had I known at the time how delicious this recipe would actually be, I would have had my real camera at the ready!  But alas, the kabobs were INHALED with barely an iPhone photo to show for the grilled fruit and veggie goodness.

I had received some garden fresh veggies (red/green bell peppers and cherry tomatoes) from a neighbor and a had an onion and Granny Smith apple on hand.  I simply cut the apple and veggies into large chunks, slid them onto skewers, and brushed them on all sides with the best homemade honey-mustard sauce.  (I created several chicken-only skewers as well, basting them while they grilled.)

There were no leftovers… they were THAT GOOD.

Honey-Mustard Summer Kabobs


  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 Tablespoons red cooking wine
  • 1 Tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon prepared yellow mustard
  • 1 Tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 drops Tabasco sauce


  1. Mix together all ingredients in a small bowl. Place skewers on grill and brush with honey-mustard sauce. Grill until heated through, turning and brushing with sauce several times.

Sounds delicious. What kind of red wine did you use? I never know what to do when the recipe says “cooking wine”.

I use “Holland House Red Cooking Wine” which you can find at the grocery store by either the salad dressings or vinegars (I think).
