my latest obsessions

my life in france

I checked out the Kindle version of this book from my library (My Life in France by Julia Child and Alex Prud’Homme) and I am obsessed, I tell you.

OBSESSED.

It is a fascinating read that covers [in great detail] her time living in France, her passion for learning, attending Le Cordon Bleu, the lengthy journey to publication, and her love of people and food.

Basically, her entire adult life.

I am wholeheartedly vested at this point and really must pick up a copy of the cookbook that consumed so many years:

mastering the art of french cooking

(Click HERE to find it on Amazon,  along with a ton of positive reviews.)  In my search for her cookbook, I was reminded of the movie Julie & Julia:

julie & julia

The screenplay is an adaptation of My Life in France (link above) and a memoir by Julie Powell, based on her blog that chronicled her attempt to cook all of the recipes in Julia Child’s cookbook in one year.

I simply must watch this now as well!  Obsessed, I tell you.

Hi Tina ~ Good obsession! I really enjoyed the movie…it is based on Julie’s blog about her experiences in cooking Julia’s recipes in a year. It also tells bits & pieces of Julia’s life in France, learning to cook at Le Cordon Bleu, her dreams and her marriage — her & her husband loved each other. In the movie, Julie’s life kinda corresponds with Julia’s life — the story goes back & forth between the two women and their experiences at cooking and life. Even though it seems like a “chick flick”, Grant watched it with me and he liked it too.
Blessings on your day! -Jodie PS you could make this into a fun event, maybe even a date night–dinner(one of Julia’s recipes)& a movie–oh what fun!

My husband told me he’d like to see the movie as well (already have a hold on it at the library!) & he suggested we cook something from Julia’s cookbook together as a Date Night – I, of course, am all over that!!! Glad to hear you liked the movie, Jodie – thanks for sharing!
