I am hardwired for goal setting. Always looking ahead, pushing forward. A few days ago, I asked my husband about his goals for the new year and it about knocked him off the chair.
Goals? What exactly do you mean?
It nearly sent him running when I asked if he had any goals specific to personal growth. 😀
All kidding aside, making such goals might seem strange to some of you. Overkill. But setting goals for personal growth is something I picked up in therapy many years ago. It is also plays a significant role in living a life with purpose and intention. Like it or not, we are all moving forward in one of two ways:
1. By or own volition, making conscious daily choices that determine our direction.
2. By being swept up in a tidal wave of circumstances and activities, hoping we land “on the other side” with everything intact.
My actions today determine my future. If I never take the time to determine goals for myself, marriage, or family – my destination is anyone’s guess. On the flip side, if I set goals and prioritize my life accordingly I can be fairly certain I’ll land somewhere in the vicinity.
