Our youngest heads off to college next month and it feels like I am stuck in The Upside Down.
It reminds me of the summer after our oldest graduated and the questions that plagued me: How will we ever pay for this? What will it be like without him here? Will we adjust? Despite the challenges and unknowns faced that first year, we survived. Letting go, is a tough but necessary part of parenting.
Sometimes a bit of self-coaching is required to keep ALL.OF.THE.MOM.FEELINGS in check but it does get easier with time.
Home life will take on a new rhythm come fall as my husband and I become “free birds” (this expression was coined by a friend attempting to refer to herself as an empty nester and I thought it oh-so-much better).
In the meantime I will do my best to enjoy these days of summer.
